After the problems I experienced with the D-link, I thought to search some more on the internet to a decent alternative. Actually, many of the operators who offer mobile broadband, offer the\u00a0Huawei B593s as well to rent or buy. I thought, if the operators prefer and recommend it, it must be a good one. Reading some more reviews on internet, seem to support this statement. I did some price comparison, and found a cheapest place to buy it. It was easy to setup and actually had a much better interface (config webmanagement) then the D-link, so I started to set everything up.<\/p>\n

First impressions were good, but after a while I noticed that it was only a marginal step forward from the D-link. Internet speeds were quite much the same as the D-link -very disappointing speeds of around 10Mb\/s download and even less upload. No matter what I tried with the antenna’s, it really did not help. I actually came to the conclusion that this was mainly due to my operator. I experimented a bit by taking the device to other locations, such as my work and tried it out. None-conclusive results, and I more or less was of the opinion it is probably the network, not the device.<\/p>\n

Also the internet disconnect continue to occur (as described in the D-link article). Perhaps somewhat lower frequency, but still significantly annoying…<\/p>\n

After using it for a while my attention shifted to other topics, such as setting up my personal web server. I registered a domain, created all these security certificates, and started to setup the server. I will explain this more in another article. This all created new needs for configuring the router, such as Port forwarding and firewall setups, etc. This I must say, was very easy to do on the router. But then I bumped into one major issue. I also\u00a0need to be\u00a0able to access my web server with the registered URL from within my LAN. New territory for me, and researching this topic, I learned about NAT Loopback<\/a>… This is an feature, very very simple feature, that needs to be supported by your router. And guess what? Of course this Huawei B593s-22 does not support it. So, this is a total dead end and was the final straw to also to write off this router…. but what is the alternative? Well, I found it! As a conclusion. It definitely is a decent router and probably fulfills most of people needs in case you cannot get wired high-speed internet, then this is a good alternative. If you need something more, like I did, I would look further. Also, value for money? I don’t think so!<\/p>\n

Small update: I decided to sell my router, but honestly anybody interested didn’t want to pay anything for it, so I kept it. Now when I travel do somewhere for Holidays, like the summer cottage, I take it with me. I buy a pre-paid data card for a few euro’s giving me pretty decent internet access for my tablets, laptops and other devices needing some kind of connectivity. Just fit-for-purpose.<\/p>\n
