D-link DGS-1500-20
I actually bought 3 of these switches. One for my main house, one in my garage and one in the garden cottage. Prior to buying them, I had only my router with 8 ports, which clearly was not enough, therefore extended in in a couple other places of my house 2 other smaller switches, each 8 ports, as I simply ran out of ports to connect all my devices. Therefore, I thought, lets do it the right way and buy some serious good switches. As you meanwhile know, we are heavy internet users here at my home, and have a lot of devices to connect. So, some heavy-duty switches with many ports was my desire. As I know that these devices needed to be installed in places where they might be audible, I clearly was looking into quiet ones. Fan-less switches were the answer! In my search. the D-link managed switches seem to be well rated and fair in price, and Fans-less.
I actually also looked for PoE switches, as it was clear that the future devices to be connected would clearly become more and more PoE enabled. At the time I bought them I did not have any PoE devices, but a great feature for the future! It was only a couple of years later, when I bought my first PoE device, when I found out that THIS model is NOT PoE enabled. Grrr…. I checked it out again, and indeed some other models (the 28P-model) is PoE enabled, but not this one! This was a maj0r setback and eventually also the main reason selling them all, and replacing them with the UniFi Switches.
As this switch is a managed switch, it has a lot of features to configure and control, if you want. Honestly, I never really figured it out. It probably requires really an expert to take all out of this device. I did, however, would have liked to monitor traffic a bit more, but that seems to either be so difficult, I never figured it out, or it is simply not possible.
Al together, I have never had any problems with the switch, it always worked well & reliable.
